Walking through most parts of France is safe, but when you are in the cities, avoid empty streets and alleyways. It is better to take a longer route to walk down a busy, safer street or to take a taxi or rideshare service to your destination.

When you arrive in France, learn the emergency phone numbers to call should you need law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders.
America’s 911 system is equivalent to 112 in France. If you need to contact the police, dial 17. If you need the fire brigade, call 18. If you require an emergency medic, call 15. Commit these numbers to memory as soon as you arrive in the country.
