8 Stress-Busting Strategies To Safeguard Your Mental Health

Stress is an essential body function that involves a whole range of psychological, physiological, and hormonal reactions. Thanks to stress, we can react in front of a dangerous situation, keep ourselves safe, prevent further injury, or find the determination we need to study for an exam or work on a time-sensitive project.

However, when stress becomes a constant in our lives, it no longer remains within a normal range and turns into chronic stress instead. Not only is chronic stress associated with a range of diseases, but it can also expose us to a greater risk of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, impaired sleep, emotional distress, and irritability.

Fortunately, there’s more than one strategy you can leverage to manage stress in your life and use it as a force for good. Let’s discuss them more below.

No. 1

Learn To Recognize Your Triggers

The first step is to learn to recognize the triggers in your daily life that cause you to experience constant stress. This can be your job, colleagues, home, family life, or financial problems. With some practice, some of these triggers can be managed.

For example, you can plan a detailed budget that can work as a roadmap to improving your financial situation. Alternatively, you could consider changing jobs or asking your employer to move you to a different team or department.

It’s important to note that not all triggers can be avoided altogether. In this case, the techniques below can help you manage how you respond to those triggers, thus leading to better overall health. Let’s uncover them one by one.

No. 2

Meditate Your Way To A Stress-Free Life

Meditation is a practice that dates back to thousands of years ago. And yet, only in the past few decades has the global scientific community started to look into the benefits that it can bring to our mental and physical health.

In particular, mindfulness meditation is considered to be a fast, simple way to reduce stress. It does so by clearing away unnecessary information overload, boosting focus and patience, improving self-awareness, and reducing anxiety. From a physical viewpoint, meditation reduces your heart rate and blood pressure and can aid sleep and chronic pain.

Discover Stress-Relieving Supplements And Herbs

Nature provides us with all we need to relieve stress and anxiety. Some herbal infusions that may help include:

  • Chamomile

  • Lemon balm

  • Fennel

  • Cinnamon

  • Mint

  • Ashwagandha

  • Rhodiola

  • Passionflower

  • Lavender

  • Valerian

You may also try ad hoc, premium natural stress-relief supplements or supplements that help with certain risk factors for high stress levels. For example, if you feel stressed and irritable because of a lack of sleep, melatonin supplements can help.

No. 4

Leveraging The Power Of Nature: Spend More Time Outdoors

“Mental health walks” have become a huge trend across all social media platforms. But they are more than just a fad—they actually work! According to studies, spending more time outdoors, ideally in a natural environment, can help reduce oxidative stress, blood pressure, and heart rate.

Walking or jogging through a lush park or garden can immediately boost your mood, increase serenity, and promote self-awareness. Not only are these physical activities helping you relieve stress by releasing feel-good neurotransmitters called endorphins, but chemicals like serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine, which improve your physical and mental health are also having positive effects on your body.

No. 5

Practice Mind-Body Activities Or Just Get Moving

Exercise of any kind can help you experience what’s known as “runner’s high”—a feeling of generalized well-being caused by the release of endorphins and other “feel good” hormones in the body (as mentioned previously). Exercise also helps clear mental and emotional overloads, improve your overall physical and mental health, and boost your self-image

For even better results, consider engaging in mind-body activities like Yoga and Tai Chi. These ancient practices can help you boost the connection between your body and mind while boosting your overall well-being.

No. 6

Create A Stress-Free Home Environment

Did you know that your home can be one of your main stress triggers? Coming home after a hard day at work to a cluttered, untidy living environment can cause your stress levels to spike. Even worse, you may not be able to focus or relax in a cluttered room because of how hard your brain needs to work to sift through the mess.

If you are struggling with high stress levels, a great starting point is to get organized, declutter your home, and get rid of items you no longer use. In no time, you will be able to enjoy a much more relaxing home that is truly conducive to overall health.

No. 7

Prioritize Sleep

Getting 7 to 9 hours of high-quality sleep each night is essential to better manage your stress levels during the daytime. When we are well-rested, we are more capable of focusing on problems that need to be solved; we also feel less irritable and overwhelmed. This can help us think more clearly and face everyday challenges without letting stress and anxiety take over our lives.

No. 8

Don’t Let Stress Take Over Your Life: Work With A Specialist

Not all stress is created equal. While feeling stressed for brief periods of time can fuel you forward, chronic stress can take you down and lead to a whole host of health problems. What’s more, over time, high stress levels can increase the risk of suffering from disorders like anxiety or depression.

In such cases, you may need more than just self-help strategies. Learn to recognize the signs of anxiety early on, and work with a mental health specialist to get the professional support you need if necessary.

Takeaways

Learning ways to manage and overcome stress in your life requires constant effort. However, with the proper tools and techniques, it becomes easier to transmute your stress into something positive.

As you redirect your energy, you will become more resilient in effectively managing your stress levels. Your stress will fuel you toward positive activities, instead. Eventually, you will emerge better equipped to handle any of life’s challenges.

No. 1

Soft Lighting for Ambiance

Harsh overhead lighting can feel cold and unwelcoming. Instead, opt for soft, diffused lighting to create a cozy ambiance. Consider installing dimmer switches or adding candles to enhance the warmth of the space. Soft, warm-toned light bulbs can also mimic natural sunlight, making your bathroom feel more inviting and comfortable, especially during evening baths.

For high-quality lighting products, visit powerpointelectrics.co.uk where you can explore a wide range of options to suit your needs and preferences. Elevate your bathing experience with gentle illumination that sets the perfect mood for relaxation.

No. 2

Warm Up with Textiles

Introduce plush textiles like towels, bath mats, and robes in soft, luxurious fabrics such as cotton or bamboo. Choose neutral or soothing colors like cream, beige, or pale blue to promote a sense of calmness.

A fluffy bath rug underfoot can add a layer of comfort, while a cozy robe hanging nearby invites you to wrap yourself in comfort after a soothing soak. Let the softness of these textiles envelop you as you step into your personal oasis, embracing warmth and relaxation with every touch.

No. 3

Add Natural Elements

Integrating natural elements into your bathroom design can evoke feelings of tranquility and a connection to the outdoors. Think about placing potted plants on a windowsill or shelf to introduce greenery and freshness.

Bamboo or wooden accessories, like soap dishes or storage baskets, can infuse warmth and texture into the space, crafting a serene oasis reminiscent of a spa retreat. Immerse yourself in nature's embrace as you surround yourself with earthy elements that inspire a sense of peace and harmony.

No. 4

Soothing Scents for Relaxation

The role of fragrance in establishing the ambiance of any space is significant. Enrich your bathroom with soothing scents such as lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus to foster relaxation and alleviate stress. Utilize scented candles, essential oil diffusers, or natural room sprays to achieve this effect.

Adding a few drops of essential oil to your bathwater can enhance your bathing experience, leaving you feeling tranquil and revitalized. Indulge your senses with the soothing aroma of your favorite scents, allowing them to transport you to a state of blissful relaxation.

No. 5

Declutter and Simplify

A cluttered bathroom can feel chaotic and overwhelming, detracting from its cozy ambiance. Take the time to declutter your space by organizing toiletries, cosmetics, and personal care products into storage bins or baskets. Keep countertops clear of unnecessary items, and invest in stylish storage solutions to keep essentials neatly tucked away.

By simplifying your bathroom decor and maintaining a tidy environment, you can create a serene and inviting atmosphere that promotes relaxation and well-being. Embrace the simplicity of a clutter-free space, allowing yourself to fully unwind and recharge in your tranquil haven.

Takeaways

The bathroom is an area that can be utilized as a place for serenity, peace, and relaxation. Since you can close off the world and be alone, adding details that will transform the space into a peaceful environment will allow you to enjoy it more. Allow yourself to decompress after a long day, and enjoy a relaxing setting that is sure to bring you a sense of calm whenever you need an escape.

7 Healing Herbs For Stress And Anxiety
Hello Lovely Living

Stress plays a fundamental role in motivating people to overcome professional and personal hurdles in life. However, too much stress can drastically impact your life, especially when balancing your work life with your personal life. Stress has different definitions in different dictionaries. In general, parameters that promote stress include financial challenges, overthinking about personal problems, professional competitions, social anxieties, etc.

While these factors might be a part of your pragmatic life, what they indeed do is contribute to health-related problems. All in all, it complicates one’s personal, professional, academic, and social life. If you think these above factors have affected your life with anxiety issues, it’s the right time to get the proper treatment.

With a varying range of treatments for anxiety and stress, you may already become confused before selecting the right solution. But given that prescribed drugs have unwanted side effects, stress-alleviating herbal therapies become the best alternative treatment.

Discuss with a medical professional before stopping or reducing prescribed medications only to follow herbal therapies. Here are the top seven herbal treatments for anxiety and stress. Let’s learn about them.

Cannabis

Coming from the family of Cannbacae, Cannabis is a flowering plant that includes three species - indica, sativa, and ruderalis. It contains cannabidiol or CBD, a natural chemical, and you can get it in different forms, including liquid extract, tablet, vape liquid, topical cream, etc.

Studies have indicated that CBD effectively treats sleep disorders (insomnia, etc.), chronic pain, and anxiety. So, to reap the benefits, you can choose high supplies from the best suppliers.

Lavender

Who would have ever imagined that a flowering plant like lavender belonging to the mint family would get famous as an herbal treatment? Yes, you read that correctly!

Honestly speaking, it can help calm your nerves and reduce anxiety. There are different ways of including lavender as your safe herbal treatment, such as:

  • Make tea from the leaves.

  • Add its flowers or oil to baths

  • Oil in aromatherapy

  • Blending the oil with regular massage oil

Valerian

Valerian is a plant found mainly in Asia and Europe. For centuries, people have used its roots to treat depression, anxiety, and sleep issues. The root is available in three forms – tablets, tincture, and tea. Up until now, studies demonstrated that it alleviates depression and stress. But the safety factor is questionable in terms of the following groups of people:

  • Nursing mothers

  • Pregnant women

  • Children below three years

One must not blend it with sedatives or alcohol; else, its effects might become dangerous.

Chamomile

Chamomile has garnered universal popularity as a flowering herb similar to daisy in terms of its appearance. Medicinally, two chamomile forms are extremely useful – German chamomile and Roman chamomile. You can consume it in various forms like tea, tinctures, capsules, and liquid extracts. Consume either 1-4 cups of chamomile tea or 1-3 ml of extracts thrice every day to get rid of stress. If you are consuming a tincture, then have 15 ml 4 times daily, and if capsules, then 400-1600 mg every day. If you take any medication, always consult your doctor before opting for this herbal treatment.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha belongs to the group of herbs termed adaptogens and affects hormones and systems in the body regulating the stress response of an individual. With its historical roots in Ayurveda, this herb has compounds acyl steryl glucosides and sitoindosides that calm your brain, reduce the level of cortisol (stress hormone), lower blood pressure, alter your immune system and reduce swelling. The recommended dosage of ashwagandha for reducing cortisol is 125 mg - 5 gm for 1 to 3 months, while for anxiety, you can consume about 500 mg of this herb for 6 to 12 weeks every day.

Kava Kava

Kava kava happens to be a shrub native to islands of the Pacific Ocean. People use kava in ceremonial beverages to alter mood and alleviate stress. It contains a compound called kava pyrones that can calm your brain and relax the muscles. One must take kava herbal treatments only after consulting a medical professional. Consuming it for three months continuously is generally safe, but overconsumption of kava can result in liver injury. In addition, make sure to never have it along with alcohol.

Passionflower

Passiflora or passionflower is a family of plants having over 550 species. Studies have shown that some species might effectively treat nervousness, anxiety, ADHD, and restlessness when consumed orally. Studies have shown that it can help you relieve surgery stress if consumed 30-90 minutes earlier than the stipulated time.

Passionflower can soothe the stomach, and research has showed promising results for treating ulcers. To use it, you can add the dried passionflower to boiling water. Make herbal tea out of it and drink for a week. For eight weeks, you can have it continuously to see the results.

Takeaways

While the above seven herbs effectively alleviate anxiety and stress, there are more choices available today. For example, Tulsi can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress; It enhances the activity and level of antioxidants, thereby interacting with free radicals and fighting adverse effects. Next, Brahmi includes potent antioxidant properties. It increases serotonin levels, which is a brain chemical that promotes relaxation and helps you cope with stress. In a nutshell, herbal treatments are highly regarded in the medicinal world today and is largely broadening its significance amongst individuals.

The Most Effective Natural Deodorant Alternative + How To Make Deodorant
The Most Effective Natural Deodorant Alternative + How To Make Deodorant
The Most Effective Natural Deodorant Alternative + How To Make Deodorant

This post may be a little TMI (too much information) for some, but I really wanted to share my wonderful, amazing, awesome, discovery.

I am going to start out by saying that I am not one to talk about personal hygiene let alone my underarms, but I thought this post would be very helpful to many women and (hopefully) young girls, especially those who are looking for natural alternatives in the deodorant department.

When I was a teen, I remember how irritating it was dealing with certain issues like shaving, dark underarms, deodorants not working, etc. I mean, I still deal with the same issues, but I think I've figured things out over the years.

For one, antiperspirants are a crime against humanity.

Oops, did I just say that! Yes, you heard that right. They are loaded with toxins, the main offender being aluminum, which blocks your body's natural ability to rid itself of toxins through sweating. To top it off, you're adding more toxic load to your body by using products like these, and doing more harm than good.

Commercial deodorants and antiperspirants also contain other harmful carcinogens that may cause long-term health problems with continued use. As you know, deodorants are used on a daily basis, so it's scary to think that we're exposing our bodies to these harmful toxins day in and day out.

Okay ladies, here's another one. Please hear me when I say that sweating is a GOOD thing.

What makes it bad is when it mixes with bacteria on the skin, which causes odor. Please, please, please, make moves toward eliminating antiperspirants from your household. You are supposed to sweat naturally.

Yes, it may sound gross, but it really isn't.

I'm not saying to completely stop using any type of deodorant, just look for ones that are naturally derived and free from chemically-derived ingredients. Look for ones that contain essential oils, coconut oil, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), and other safe ingredients. There are so many alternatives and options available these days, or you could even make one yourself (at the end of this post, I'm sharing my homemade deodorant recipe).

I recommend the The Think Dirty app if you are interested in shopping for cleaner alternatives. It's a good resource to use when shopping around because it allows you to learn about the ingredients in beauty and personal care products and choose cleaner options.

To clarify, deodorants are used for preventing odor by killing the bacteria that causes odor, while antiperspirants block sweat by basically plugging up pores. Most products claim that they do both, so watch out for that.

The more the claim - you can bet - the more the toxins!

A bonus to switching to purely natural deodorants is that I have noticed a huge difference in the color of my underarms. I'm not saying that my underarms were black or anything, but they were enough for me to cry wolf. I'll be sharing my method for whitening underarms in a future post, but one of the main factors in the change of my underarm appearance was indeed switching to a natural deodorant. It made a huge difference. I am now confident enough to flaunt my underarms! Woot woot!

So, what is this super amazing discovery of mine that I wanted to share with you?

Well, with my move toward a cleaner lifestyle several years ago, I started exploring different types of deodorants (natural ones) and found one that was made from a natural mineral salt. The product is called Crystal, and it's completely natural and EFFECTIVE. The way it works is that, once it's applied, it forms a barrier on the skin that prevents odor-causing bacteria from forming.

Well, let me just say that this product is extremely effective at protecting the skin from developing any odor - not perfect, but close to it. The one that I use is the Crystal rock*. It literally is a clear crystal rock. All I do is wet it with a little bit of water, then rub it on and let it dry.

Okay, so that's not the end of the story.

A year or so ago, I decided to try their other variety, Crystal Essence deodorant, which is basically the same thing in liquid form and with essential oils and extracts. I thought, hey, since it's the same thing, why not try it out. I tried it for a long time, and it did work "okay", but didn't work as well as the Crystal rock did. I would still develop BO, which is no bueno!

The Most Effective Natural Deodorant Alternative + How To Make Deodorant

So, since I was already caught up in the whole process of trying to find something that was close to a normal deodorant stick, what I decided to do was try another natural deodorant that I had been seeing all over social media - Schmidt's. I tried the Lavender + Sage scent. Although I really loved what this company stood for, I found the product to be quite thick, and it didn't work as well as I thought it would.

Warning: TMI again.

I found that it did not hold up as well as the Crystal rock did. My body rejected it or something because I was getting BO within the 24 hrs that I had applied it. Not kidding! I was sad that Schmidt's didn't work for me, because like I said, I really love the scents that they have to choose from.

Moral of the story: It seems that different formulas react to my body differently.

So, anyway, after being disappointed in that failed attempt to try something that closely resembled a normal stick of deodorant, I decided to go back to my tried and true Crystal rock, but change one thing.

I decided to also apply tea trea oil as well.

Breakthrough! The combination of the crystal rock and the tea tree oil work so amazingly well together that I have not experienced BO like I did with the other two deodorants that I tried.

And ... why did I not think of this sooner ... ? Tea tree oil is a natural antibacterial, so it prevents bacteria from forming. I apply undiluted 100% tea tree oil after I rub the Crystal rock on my skin, and - TADAAA!

The perfect deodorant. It works so well for me that I think my deodorant-searching-days are over.

I forgot to mention that in the past, I have also tried a homemade deodorant using baking soda and coconut oil, which worked well for several months. I'm not sure why I stopped. I think it was more of the matter of convenience that it was lacking, which is why I stuck with the Crystal rock. The Crystal rock dries completely clear and never leaves any residue.

I do recommend the Crystal rock deodorant + tea tree oil if you're interested in my method that has worked well for me.

The best part is that the rock literally lasts for years and years and stays completely new the entire time. It's amazing. For those of you who are interested in purchasing the Crystal rock and tree oil, I'll leave links at the end of this post so that they're easy for you to find!

While I'm at it, I decided to create a homemade deodorant recipe for those of you who are interested in something resembling a traditional deodorant stick.

I know how hard it can be to get used to something different, so this will help to ease the transition. It's also a great way to save money as natural deodorants are pricey!

Here is some useful information about the ingredients that I've chosen for my natural deodorant recipe and why I chose to use them specifically. That's the good part about homemade recipes, you can always tailor it to you and get the exact benefits and results out of them, naturally.
